Derive from the Singlish (Singapore’s unique language) word, which also means “Super” in English, “Sibei” a common word you’ll often hear in Singapore. A word that the crafter frequently uses as he feels that the word can relate to him in all kind of situation because he likes to intensify his words.
Hence, he named it Sibei [see-bay] Authentic to make sure that the prints he produces are of authentic quality.
Based in Singapore, Sibei [see-bay] Authentic
is part of the projects created by The Obscure Room
Started by Zhi Liang, a crafter and professional graphic designer skilled in linocut printmaking and hand lettering, he loves to experiment and explore interesting concepts working across multiple disciplines.
He like to emphasise that each of the items are crafted by his own hands and very authentically handmade. With every new design/piece, he aims to create prints that people can relate to and bring back memories of their lives.
The brand started out as an experiment to create linocut prints
Linocut is a kind of printing method that required a lot of hands-on
My main source of inspiration comes from books and vintage items found randomly online and around parts of Singapore. Of course, there are also people who influence me in design, to name a few will be Kenya Hara, Anonymous, Somewhere Else, BMD Design and Aaron Nieh.
All my prints are hand printed and each individual print is different
I was curious on it and started exploring and recording down the process on Instagram. It was halfway through my first print and my friends start to asked me if my prints are for sales. Hence, I start to sell the prints.
