Parasolbag was started 1+ year ago by Tiffany. Out of design interest, she was making some bags out of a water-resistant
canvas material and later she decided to showcase them to see how people respond to it.
A bag, after all is meant to be used so it was really a casual start
Tiffany: I wasn’t aiming for high sales; I was just happy to show my work to people and hopefully have them to use it.
The idea of the brand is to use off-cuts canvas recovered from parasol factories to make bags. When these factories make large umbrellas and awnings, there’s a significant amount of fresh, scrap material that’s left unused.
These scraps come in all sorts of odd shapes and sizes, so it’s quite hard to use them again and I decided to stitch the smaller pieces together and make unique bags out of them.
Each Parasolbag is hand-crafted in Singapore
I make all the Parasolbags in my studio at Seah Street. Lately I designed new bag model for cyclists. I’ve tailored it to fit the new Coast Cycles bike, Quinn. It was shown at the recent SingaPlural event during the design week.
