Started by Visakan Veerasamy and Desmond Chua in 2012, Statement designs breezy, fun t-shirts, totebags that gets people talking and their products are proudly printed in Singapore on demand.
Started out from scribbling random phrases..
It all started out with Visakan scribbling random phrases in school …
Years later he founded the exercise book and put those phrases into MS Paint on a t-shirt template and uploaded it on Facebook.
Desmond, a friend of Visakan stumbled upon it and sent him a long message saying how they could make this a project. The duo – both of whom having day jobs in marketing and design at a local startup firm ReferralCandy, take time to met up casually to work on the plans to produce t-shirts that they both wanted to wear.
It was then Statement was founded with ample help from Eugene Tay from Less Than Positive, who guided them the ropes and convinced them to try and make it happen.
Inspired by Singaporeans
Inspired by everything Singaporean, be it commonly used phrases from everyday life (“eh sia la!”, “bojio!”) to expletives (“knnbccb”) and warning signs (“danger! keep out!”), their products appeal to the cool folks who aren’t afraid to make a fashion statement.
You’d even see some of their customers wear them at iconic places all over the world! Since then, the brand has grown much larger than expected, thanks to the power of word-of-mouth.
